We have the Largest inventory of Mats

Our inventory of over 1 million mats is the largest in the world. But how does that affect you?

More mats = more savings

Yak Mat has worked hard to build up the largest matting inventory in the world. We've built yards around the country to store out inventory of more than 1 million mats. This means a Yak Mat yard is likely the closest yard to your project. And when you need to transport 200,000 mats to your site the costs really stack up.

Boost local economies

One of the goals of any project we do is to provide positive impact to the communities we work in. Throughout the country we have over 70 sawmills and mat yards, and as our team partners on projects throughout North America, it is critical that we utilize local resources in order to be successful.

When large projects roll into local communities we need the skills, talents and resources of local companies and community. During the phases of a project, we typically need…

1

Utilizing Local resources to build access mats

  • Local trucking companies to transport timber
  • Local service companies to maintain trucks and equipment
  • Local dozers and drivers to operate them
  • Local saw mills and skilled operators
  • Local skidders
  • Local loaders
  • Local fuel for trucks & equipment

2

Building mats

  • People to transport timbers from the mill to the mat builder
  • Sourcing local supplies (bolts, fasteners, etc.)
  • Local heavy equipment utilized in production

3

Mat Delivery

  • Delivery of mats to the project site
  • Local staff to load and unload trucks going to and from the project site
  • Management of mats once they are returned to the yard

EXTENDED IMPACT

Our work impacts more than just those involved at our mills and facilities. Because not everyone will live in some of the designated project areas, individuals assigned to the project may have to stay for an extended period of time. Additionally, workforce may need to be added on the projects by utilizing local talent.

40+ years Experience

Although recently renamed, the company has been around for 40+ years.  The tradition of building mats began when founder, Brett Jones, started DixieMat.  With years of experience in the timber business, Brett began building hardwood mats to support the construction and pipeline industries. DixieMat expanded throughout the years to become the largest mat producer in North America, owning sawmills across the country. Initially DixieMat used various wholesalers to support their demand, but in 2006 decided to become a direct source to the end user. This provided DixieMat the capabilities to be more competitive on pricing and expanded their nationwide inventory.

With the on-going demand from both the midstream construction and transmission and distribution industries, DixieMat made the decision to merge with their long time partner, Beasley Forest Products-matting division. In 2016, Beasley and DixieMat merged and rebranded the matting company as YAK MAT.

The new Yak Mat provides our customers with access to the largest fleet of mats in the world. The combined inventory and production capacity of Dixie and Beasley ensures access to the mats you need, at the most competitive prices in the industry.

With over 70+ locations in the U.S. and Canada we are closer to clients and their projects. Closer not only means cheaper freight, but more importantly, faster delivery.
